Experience
The experience behind Signal 31.
Before founding Signal 31, Walter Egan spent two decades creating developer content for Oracle platforms. These projects show the range of work Signal 31 builds on.
Oracle JET learning path
Challenge: Oracle JET’s new virtual DOM architecture needed a guided route from a first app to a working CRUD app connected to a REST backend.
Delivered: A multi-part learning path that takes developers through creating a virtual DOM app, customizing the layout, implementing a master-detail pattern, and adding CRUD functionality. Companion sample apps were built with the Oracle JET CLI and VS Code against a REST backend on Oracle APEX, and the tutorials were published from Markdown through a Gatsby docs-as-code pipeline.
Demonstrates: Technical communication
End-to-end testing of Oracle JET
Challenge: Developers who had built the learning path’s CRUD app needed a way to test it automatically.
Delivered: A two-part learning path module with sample apps and test scripts built with the Oracle JET CLI, Oracle JET’s testing libraries, and VS Code, published through the same Markdown and Gatsby docs-as-code pipeline.
Demonstrates: Technical communication
Getting-started video for Oracle JET
Challenge: New users needed a quick way to see what Oracle JET is and get a first app running.
Delivered: A nine-minute overview video that ends with creating and deploying a first app in a development environment. Storyboard, script, slides, and samples were all produced in-house before recording and editing in OBS Studio.
Demonstrates: Technical product marketing, as an adoption piece
Oracle JET virtual DOM developer’s guide
Challenge: Oracle JET introduced a new development paradigm, the virtual DOM architecture, and developers needed a guide to building apps and components with it.
Delivered: A new developer’s guide written from scratch in a DITA-based content management system, reusing content from the existing Model-View-ViewModel guide where it applied.
Demonstrates: Technical communication
Oracle Visual Builder Cookbook
Challenge: Developers using Oracle Visual Builder Studio needed working examples of frequently requested app features.
Delivered: A cookbook of samples and step-by-step recipes, co-founded and developed with Visual Builder development and product management. Included a style guide for all recipe steps and UI text, and review and editing of every submitted recipe through merge requests in Visual Builder Studio’s integrated Git repositories.
Demonstrates: Technical communication, plus running a content program with a style guide
